What differentiates Basecamp from other similar products?

Basecamp is very easy to implement across teams. Our current Basecamp includes multiple departments—members from our technical support and front office teams, R&D, operations, and marketing groups—and our department utilizes Basecamp projects the most when it comes to planning our exhibits at conferences since multiple departments are involved. Basecamp required very little onboarding, and the tool provides excellent means of communication.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The Campfire feature provides an option for teams to discuss urgent items, the calendar can share milestones with Google Calendar, and it's easy to organize documents within folders. In fact, documents are much easier to organize and access within Basecamp than Google Drive. The mobile app provides an easy way for our representatives to access critical show documents such as electrical and labor orders without needing to carry a laptop with them. And, one can quickly ask for help by at-mentioning or pinging another team member no matter where they are.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The Gantt chart plug-in is clunky and dependencies are non-existent. So, if you are a project manager, there are only a few tools at your disposal for keeping projects on track. This application is obviously geared for project participants that do not have a project manager role or for those who want to manage projects without any complexity.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

When we established Basecamp, we realized that the communication was only as good as the notifications that each profile set individually. To create some foundations for communication, we elected a small team to propose a baseline notification setting list that we expected all project participants to have. This way, when we at-mention someone, we have at least a minimal expectation of how someone is notified. This was extremely helpful for our traveling representatives who, if they needed help right away, could rest assured that their at-mention would appear as a pop-up notification and in an email for increased visibility.

Basecamp allows employees to prepare a to do list to avoid tasks collision It synchronizes with calendar to assist managers in decision making and budgeting It also presents a shared dashboard that allows managers to read from the same page

BaseCamp generates adhoc real time reports that aid in decision making and mitigating potential risks
