What differentiates Google Meet from other similar products?
Google Meet accessibility and ease of use is an important differentiator. Meet doesn’t require attendees to install additional software or create an account in order to take part in a meeting, unlike some competitors. This browser-based technology, along with features such as one-click inclusion from calendar invitations, is extremely easy to use, especially for outside participants or those less used to video conferencing tools.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I like Meet’s live captioning feature where you can read what is said in real time while you’re having a meeting. This accessibility function is not only great for those who can’t hear but also invaluable in cases when audio might be confusing or participants have to look over a meeting material after the fact. The captions are extremely accurate, and the captions in different languages being able to translate them in real-time is game-changing for international teams.
What do you dislike most about this product?
A downside is the polling and Q&A functionality is rather clunky on the platform. These are there but they don’t have the range and flexibility of other video conferencing tools. Advanced capabilities to create polls of various types, or to make them anonymous, or for Q&A sessions that can upvote questions would certainly make a difference to how well they engage audiences in larger meetings or webinars.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Keep in mind what you use video conferencing for. If you host a lot of large webinars or want more advanced breakout room management, Meet’s capabilities are a little limited compared to other webinar platforms. But for everyday team meetings, phone calls with clients and just a basic brainstorming, Meet is a great fit due to its simplicity and stability. So check in particular on noise cancellation, live captions, and screen sharing, to see if you can find them adequate for good communication.

What differentiates Google Meet from other similar products?
Google Meet stands out from the crowd by easily integrating into Google Workspace. You can set up and access meetings from either Gmail or Google Calendar, which is extremely convenient for companies that already use Google productivity tools. This close integration is also found with other Google products such as Docs, Sheets and Slides, making it simple to collaborate during meetings without having to toggle between several different applications.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Personally, I love Google Meet for its artificial noise cancelling and sound quality. AI is enlisted by the service to eliminate ambient sounds such as typing, doors shutting or even dogs barking, in order to give clear voice on the phone. This technology makes for a much better meeting experience especially in home offices where background noise is always a pain.
What do you dislike most about this product?
There is one thing I do not like about Google Meet, and that is that virtual backgrounds and video filters can’t be customized as much as some of the competition. Although Meet comes with basic background blur and a set of pre-made backgrounds, you can’t upload your own backgrounds or employ higher-level video filters which isn’t as interactive and fun if you have a team that loves to be creative with virtual meetings.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
I recommend that if you’re considering Google Meet, I would start by taking a look at your current technology stack in your organization. Even if you already use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), Meeting’s integration with other Google services such as Calendar, Drive, and Docs can help you stay on top of things. Try the free version to explore the bare minimum of functionality and see how it aligns with your team’s voice.
