What differentiates Hygraph from other similar products?
The ability to have remote data fields, custom yo plugins and the full capability of fitting with newer platforms such as next js. It’s developer friendly and a developer first company, most companies spend their money marketing to the wrong people, developers make the choice on these products and therefore graphcms hit the right spot.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
My favourite part of this product is union types, they allow us to do exactly what other products couldn’t. It’s meant we can create a Lego type structure and content editors can build feature rich pages and developers can easily add new components and capability within a few hours.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The fact nested routing isn’t supported out of the box, this delayed our project quite a bit and the developers at graphcms couldn’t suggest a viable solution to this. Although it’s something they’re considering, when customers will see this won’t be for some time. Other issues are related to remote fields, no caching and if the remote endpoint is down then the api fails to return the rest of graphcms specific fields, it would be more desirable if it returned the last known state of the customers api.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Do your research, there are a lot of products in the market. For large companies this was the best solution we found, we procured every product on the market and tested them as well. This was the only one which passed all our features and the staff at graphcms were happy to answer all questions and even setup calls with the right people in their business for us to speak to. The support has been ongoing and they’ve already implemented our suggestions in several areas.
