"low-code" is not "no-code".

Likeliness to Recommend

4 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Power Apps from other similar products?

They say it's a low-code platform, which is true for simple things. But as soon as you want to do something a little complex, you have to write formulas that look a lot like code.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I like that the formula language is similar to excel. If you are good with excel formulas, you will find it easier to learn. It gives you a lot of power to customize your app.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It gets very complicated very fast. The learning curve is much steeper than they advertise.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Don't be fooled. You still need to have a logical, developer-like mindset to build good apps.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Trustworthy

Cons

  • Leverages Incumbent Status
  • Slower Product Innovation

The performance can be a problem.

Likeliness to Recommend

5 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Power Apps from other similar products?

I built an app that connects to a large sharepoint list, and it is very slow. It takes a long time to load the data, and filtering is not very fast.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I like that it is easy to connect to different data sources. I can pull in data from sharepoint, excel, and sql server all into one single app.

What do you dislike most about this product?

You have to be very careful about delegation warnings. If you don't, your app will be very slow.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you are building an app with a lot of data, you need to think carefully about performance.

Pros

  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Trustworthy
  • Unique Features

Cons

  • Less Effective Service
  • Wastes Time

What differentiates Microsoft Power Apps from other similar products?

What really makes Power Apps stand out is its seamless integration with other Microsoft 365 tools. Whether it's pulling data from SharePoint, automating tasks with Power Automate, or embedding apps in Teams, the ecosystem works like magic. It lowers the barrier to entry for non-developers while still offering depth for more advanced users.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite thing about Power Apps is how it turns ideas into working solutions quickly. I’ve been able to build custom tools tailored to specific workflows without waiting months for IT support. The drag-and-drop interface and rich templates make app development accessible and enjoyable.

What do you dislike most about this product?

While Power Apps is powerful, its licensing model can be confusing and expensive, especially when scaling solutions across a large team. Also, some performance issues can crop up with complex apps or large data sources

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

The learning curve can be unexpectedly steep once you move beyond the basics, especially when dealing with more advanced logic or integrating external data sources.

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
