What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?

Microsoft Project provides my team and me with easy-to-navigate real-time chase of our worldwide ocean containers. Instead of keeping manual files or alternative long methods, we use Microsoft Project to watch our shipments for us automatically. We use the tool multiple times per day. Technology is prime of the line. When shipments track, they track well. There’s no doubt that they’re delivering on nice visibility (when it works).

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I like that Microsoft Project offers the flexibility to own all of my shipment info in one place. I appreciate that they supply analytics as well so I can see however my shipments are tracking at a bigger scale. Microsoft Project can facilitate change our linehaul operation to realize higher visibility into the workload that we manage on a daily basis. The visibility to shipment is nice and real-time tracking without having to search all the carrier’ web site directly.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Their Support Center is very slow (months to resolve tickets). Additionally, a better partnership to fix broken ELD connections and aboard new carriers would be nice. It looks like we do most of the legwork to resolve problems with very little support and help from it. It might be nice to be able to ask for help and have them take care of it to full resolution, in a timely manner.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you’re having problems with your current provider of track and trace information, I extremely advocate that you simply look at Microsoft Project to fill your needs.

For project leaders, this is a must-have tool!

What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?

A project management tool with all the functions a project manager needs. Basic functions such as Gantt chart, dash line, and resource management are natural, but it is wonderful that EVM management can be done with this one. Also, as small-scale projects are often carried out in-house, the frequency of rescheduling is high, but by setting a context for each WBS, if the schedule of the previous task is changed, the next one will also be added automatically. As the schedule is changed, the risk work is very easy and useful.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

It is natural that the functions are multifunctional, but the interface is similar to other Microsoft products, so it is easy to install and the barrier to entry is reduced. If you master it, it is compatible with PMBOK, so you can handle calculations like EVM and you can simulate cost outlooks with this software, leading to actions like securing a budget.

What do you dislike most about this product?

There is usually free viewing software in the Microsoft Office suite, but the lack of a free viewer in Microsoft Project is a major barrier to entry, so provide free viewing software from MS. Also, the price is high, so it would be helpful if it could be a little cheaper.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Since team members are working on multiple projects at the same time, it is necessary to carefully manage the total man-hours of work assigned to one person (it needs not to exceed 1MM), so each member must be precisely controlled. Microsoft Project has become an indispensable project management tool for teams. Also, although I brought it up as a good point, before the introduction of MS Project, it was managed in Excel, so rescheduling work was very difficult and time-consuming work, but after the introduction of MS Project, rescheduling work is very difficult It is a great point that it became easier.
