You need to learn some basics before you can schedule or plan a project

I highly recommend Microsoft Project for planning, managing, and tracking projects.

What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?

Microsoft has been developing this product for several years and it has matured well over time. There are a number of exciting features in the product and the ability to interact and share between projects is very useful in the day-to-day work of our project managers. Budget monitoring is well done.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Portfolio Manager allows me to browse the full web of business projects I manage. This allows for much better visibility into the organization's resource constraints, minimizing risk. I can see who is working on multiple projects and have a greater ability to switch resources between projects to keep them on track.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Projects still require a lot of data entry to accurately track projects and resources. I'm still struggling to integrate its use with non-Microsoft tools.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Set up your project administration and basic templates before launching it in your organization.

What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?

Project management inside the firm is often performed using Microsoft Project. Given how accessible it is to a wide range of users, this program has been adopted by a number of different divisions. This is done for complicated projects that need to plan out their resources and budgets over a longer period of time.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

To plan business projects where allocating resources and estimating costs are simple, Microsoft Project is a solid choice. As short-term planning and analysis are very simple to carry out, it is particularly applicable to six sigma/process improvement projects. Construction of refineries and power plants, both extremely complicated endeavors, are good candidates.

What do you dislike most about this product?

We have less leeway with more difficult jobs. This program is not EPC compliant. In Gantt, shading for percent complete is not available unless the user actively adds it.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Fantastic for keeping tabs on the big picture, including tasks, deadlines, dependencies, etc. It's simple to make changes when you look to your predecessors. Although it can be utilized, the percent complete metric is often inaccurate when used to agile projects. Microsoft Project provides a simple interface and documents that can be modified quickly and easily. To create Gantt charts and identify bottlenecks, the tool gives useful visualizations.
