The gold standard, as long as you are experienced
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?
MS Project and Project Online are outstanding at what they do and are the foundational standard that more specialized products branch out from. The simplicity of building workable, visualized project plans is second to none.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Customization and flow control is some of the software's best features. I can set separate or custom schedules and apply them to groups or roles; in the matrix business environment that can be very helpful for estimating completion dates or headcount requirements.
What do you dislike most about this product?
If you know Project, it is excellent; if you do not, there is a steep ramp-up to learning how to set up and optimize project plans. This ramp-up often causes new users not to see as much value in the product since they don't know what they don't know.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
This is one of those programs/tools that can simplify your team's work, but you need to learn it, and I do not mean "learn as you go." If you are willing to invest in training or some administration support as you ramp, you will get the most out of the product.
Pros
- Enables Productivity
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
- Trustworthy
Cons
- Inhibits Innovation
- Slower Product Innovation
- Commodity Features
