Check-in/check-out stops people overwriting work

Likeliness to Recommend

3 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

Our engineering team of 25 people uses sharepoint to store our technical specification documents. Before we had sharepoint, two people would sometimes edit the same document at the same time and one person's work would get lost.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Now, we use the "check-out" feature. When i want to edit a document, i check it out. Nobody else can edit it until i check it back in. It prevents any conflicts or lost work. It's a simple system that works really well.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The biggest problem is that people forget to check their documents back in. Then nobody else can edit it, and we have to go and ask them to check it in. Sometimes we have to get our admin to override the check-out.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you need to make sure only one person can edit a critical document at a time, this feature is perfect.

How We Aligned Performance Scores with Value

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?

SharePoint works because it gives our HR team a content-safe collaboration space without leaving the Microsoft ecosystem. For agency-wide L\&D initiatives, we house all training decks and SOPs in a central knowledge hub. Versioning is vital since HR policies shift frequently during client acquisition phases

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Permission control is a lifesaver. We have tailored views per department, so creatives only see their HR docs, while finance sees comp policies. The metadata tagging allows our HRBP to pull docs by quarter and department during audits. And we use embedded Power BI tiles to track time-off trends by team in a live dashboard

What do you dislike most about this product?

Search indexing doesn’t respect our custom columns well. So unless users tag correctly, some key docs vanish into the void. Also, nested folder structures within HR repositories make mobile access unnecessarily difficult.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Build a taxonomy strategy before uploading anything. And lean into content types and templates early — they cut down retrieval time during fire drills like FCA audits or GDPR responses

Pros

  • Effective Service
  • Saves Time
  • Fair
  • Friendly Negotiation
