Comprehensive Monitoring Solution

Likeliness to Recommend

6 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager from other similar products?

Given that SCOM is part of the Microsoft System Center suite, it integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft products, such as Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager, and Windows Server. This was a compelling reason our company chose SCOM. It also integrates with Microsoft Azure, enabling organizations to monitor their cloud infrastructure alongside their on-premises infrastructure from a single pane of glass. SCOM is also supported on lots of OS's including Windows, Linux, and Unix, making it a flexible and comprehensive solution for IT infrastructure monitoring and management.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Our IT team loves the agentless monitoring support, which means that they can monitor their IT infrastructure without installing software on every server or device. This feature can simplify deployment and reduce the overall management overhead.

What do you dislike most about this product?

SCOM can be complex to configure and maintain, requiring significant investment in training and resources to effectively use the platform. If your system platform is not Microsoft based, there may be integration limitations.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

As with deciding to implement any licensed software, take the time to understand your organization's specific needs and use cases. This will help you identify which features and capabilities of SCOM are most important for your organization. When in the testing/early adoption phase, consider starting with a small-scale deployment of SCOM to test the platform's capabilities and ensure that it meets your organization's needs before scaling up to larger deployments. I would also plan to invest in training and resources to effectively use the platform. Microsoft provides a range of training and certifications.
