What differentiates Progress WhatsUp Gold from other similar products?
WhatsUp Gold is an excellent application for monitoring servers and networks. It discovers devices on our network and provides us with a lot of information. The monitoring and alerting are extremely detailed, and the reports contain useful information.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I like everything about WhatsUp Gold like easy-to-add new devices, a wide range of monitors, paging capability, and a nice dashboard layout. When something is down, we have much better visibility. This has increased our uptime because we can now be more proactive. We can also quickly discover and monitor new devices. One of the primary advantages is receiving an email alert before or when a device fails, allowing us to avoid receiving hundreds of tickets from users.
What do you dislike most about this product?
WhatsUPGold does not have many disadvantages. It is inexpensive, proactive, and informative. That being said, support was extremely helpful and assisted me in configuring and setting up the options for us. There is no API interface for monitoring automation. There are no options for complex alert logic or recovery notification.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
WhatsUp Gold is a great tool for monitoring servers and networks. It finds devices on our network and gives us a lot of information. The monitoring and alerting are extremely detailed, and the reports are filled with useful information. It had all of the features we wanted and was reasonably priced. I also keep an eye on critical services like SQL and Rapid Recovery, to name a few.
