Most appropriate chat solution for research

What differentiates Zulip from other similar products?

Zulip enables a fine-grained distinction between topics. This makes it easy to pick up what happened in discussions involving several actors even when you've been out of the loop for a long time. Discussions do not get mixed up.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Zulip provides very powerful tools to track discussions and have rich interactions.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Zulip has a non-zero learning curve compared to most slack-line chat products out there. This learning curve is unavoidable if one wants to get the benefits from the specific features Zulip offers.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Try Zulip out. There are many ways to test drive it without committing.

Never going back to Slack!

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Zulip from other similar products?

Simple and just works. No quirky broken features like most Matrix clients, no feature and mental overload like in Slack. Nice granularity of control.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Organizing topics under channels is great.

What do you dislike most about this product?

1. Inability to archive topics leads to infinitely growing list under each channel, that is crazy. 2. Search is quite basic on mobile

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Give the desktop web UI a try! It seems overwhelming at first but it's actually quite manageable and you get used to it. We've used Element (Matrix client, total disaster of a product), Slack (expensive and overloaded), Rocket (lame), Telegram (insecure), Google Chat (we want a separate channel and it's not sufficiently useful), Signal (no way to organize anything)

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Generous Negotitation
  • Over Delivered
  • Friendly Negotiation
