What differentiates Microsoft Viva Engage (Yammer) from other similar products?

For me, Microsoft Viva Engage is a key tool for our communication environment, it continuously increases our morale as we use it to share sales wins, completed milestones and learning resources. The platform is good because everything shared in there is not the type of information that you would consider urgent, but it's still important and relevant and it's nice to have a separate space for that, so our main communication tools don't get overloaded with information that is not urgent. This tool also allows me to stay in communication with other departments, which is essential to know what they're discussing and sharing our own updates.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I like that Microsoft Viva Engage has offered us a platform for our less formal communication and it has become a key tool for us to share information as a team. I like that it offers many tools that are essential for digital communication and daily chats with our team, such as tagging each team member. The interface feels very like social media but for internal company management, which I love because it makes it very intuitive and it integrates well in our daily communication, and it has a executive communication space where leadership can speak to everyone and gather comments.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Microsoft Viva Engage is a very central communicative space, but I have noticed that it is not made for urgent communications, it is rather built for things like discussions between teams that can then be taken into other tools like Teams, where you can have fast and actionable updates. In addition to that, this tool can be very overwhelming when it comes to the amount of content posted, it can lead to content overload if the space is not moderated well, making it difficult to scroll through all the posts.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

For everyone who is considering trying out Viva Engage, start with a few communities to test out all the features, if you create a community for each team or interest it can get annoying really fast, but if you focus on a few, it will have more engagement from everyone and it will allow you to boost your team voice and company culture. Consider that this tool is not very ideal for a task tracker but rather to build an online internal community for your business where everyone can stay connected.

Viva Engage excels by seamlessly integrating with Microsoft 365 platforms, which produces a unified interface that denies users the need to constantly move between platforms. Thanks to its communities platform, Microsoft presents superior organic sharing capabilities that outperform normal groups along with email chains and chat apps. The content discovery system of this platform automatically presents suitable discussion materials to users while they avoid keeping tabs on every existing group.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My preferred feature of this system includes alerts, which prevent notification overload. The mobile application delivers complete system functionality, which permits communication effectiveness throughout both desk and campaign site situations. Every communication action supports our company identity through branded experience options, which strengthen cultural expression during each interaction. Public recognition tools provided by this platform help teams reveal contributions, thus building appreciation cultures that other competing platforms cannot deliver.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Viva Engage provides limited external collaboration functions, which cause problems when we need to work with agencies and partners.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I initially viewed Viva Engage with doubt because my team chose to implement one more communication system on top of their existing digital complexity. Watching this tool unite our creative forces with strategy forces and execution forces persuaded me to change my perspective on it. I would recommend them to get it if they use a large amount of Microsoft products already.
